Huge Black Smoke Plume Seen Across Greater Manchester

A large black plume of smoke can be seen rising into the sky across most of Greater Manchester this afternoon.

Residents in Salford have been reporting the smoke which appears to be coming from an industrial building in neighbouring Trafford Park.

The source of the substantial plume seems to be originating from the rear of a building belonging to freight haulage company ‘KLN‘ who operate from Clarence Avenue in Trafford Park, a section of Ashburton Road West has now been fully closed.

Meanwhile, firefighters are trying to bring the fire under control.

GMFRS have issues the following statement:

“Just after 1.25pm on Friday, April 24, fire crews were called to reports of a large fire at an industrial premises on Clarence Avenue in Trafford Park.

“Fire engines from Stretford, Eccles and Manchester Central were among the first to attend the scene, where firefighters found a significant fire involving part of a factory building, with reports that chemicals and oil drums were stored nearby.

“Crews quickly deployed jets to fight the fire, while additional fire engines, specialist equipment and an aerial appliance were also mobilised.

“Firefighters continue to work closely with Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service, and Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART) to manage the incident safely.

“Members of the public are advised to avoid the area while crews continue to tackle the fire and make the scene safe.”

Police and Paramedics are reported to be currently in attendance at the scene, it is so far unknown if there have been any injuries.

A rescue spokesperson said:

“Crews are currently dealing with a fire at an industrial unit in Trafford Park.

“Please keep windows and doors shut if you are in the surrounding area and avoid the location while emergency services work at the scene.

“Thank you for your cooperation.”

Smoke seen rising above the tree line from Weaste Allotments this afternoon

Residents close to the source of the fire have been warned to keep doors and windows closed.

Smoke has been reported billowing across the M60 close to the Trafford Centre with drivers warned to remain vigilant.
