“Your Salford 100” Exhibition Launches as City Marks 100 Years

A new exhibition celebrating Salford’s past and present through contemporary art is set to open this weekend as part of the city’s landmark centenary year.

“Your Salford 100: Contemporary Narratives” will launch on Saturday at the Salford Museum & Art Gallery, bringing together a diverse group of artists inspired by the city and its rich museum collection.

The exhibition forms part of a wider programme marking 100 years since Salford was granted city status, with cultural events taking place throughout 2026 to celebrate its people, history and creative talent.

Running from 28 March to 27 September, the exhibition showcases newly created work with a strong focus on printmaking and textiles. Visitors will see pieces displayed alongside the historic objects and artworks that influenced them, creating a dialogue between Salford’s past and present.

Featured artists include Louisa Boyd and Sharon Brown, alongside the Immaterial Collective – made up of Claire Batt, Nerissa Cargill Thompson, Louise Ann Clarke, Alena Ruth Donely, Lowri Evans, Claire Hignett, Jane Lawson and Lee Smith — as well as Northern Contemporary Printmakers, including Caitlin Akers, Michael Hitchens and Mandy Tolley.

The exhibition is part of the broader “Your Salford 100” initiative, which has invited communities and creatives from across the city to engage with the museum’s collections and help tell Salford’s story in its centenary year.

An official opening event is also being held this week, giving visitors the chance to be among the first to experience the new works and celebrate the city’s cultural heritage.

With free entry and no tickets required, organisers are encouraging residents and visitors alike to explore the exhibition and take part in Salford’s 100-year celebrations.
