St Augustine’s Church, Pendlebury, will hold a special commemorative service on 18 June 2026 to remember the men and boys who lost their lives in the Clifton Hall Colliery Mining Disaster on 18 June 1885.

The event will take place at the Grade I listed church on Bolton Road, Pendlebury, which is described as “the hidden gem in Pendlebury.” Visitors are invited to join the church community in honouring the memory of the miners who died in the tragedy.

The programme will include an opportunity to visit the Miners’ Memorial, followed by a service in the church beginning at 12 noon. The memorial stands as a lasting tribute to the 178 miners whose lives were lost in the disaster.

Following the service, light refreshments will be available in the church.

The commemoration will be held at St Augustine’s Church, Bolton Road, Pendlebury, M27 8UX. Further information is available from the church via staugustinespendlebury@gmail.com.
