Salford to honour Armed Forces with parade through Winton this Saturday

Salford residents are being encouraged to line the streets and head to Winton Park this Saturday (27 June) for a day of celebration, community spirit and family entertainment as the city marks Armed Forces Day.

The community parade will begin at 10.30am from Dukes Drive Car Park in Monton before making its way along Worsley Road before arriving at Winton Park on Dover Street, Eccles, where a free family fun day will continue until 4pm. The event celebrates the service and sacrifice of serving military personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets and their families while bringing the local community together.

Salford Media will be broadcasting part of the parade live as it makes its way along Worsley Road towards Winton Park, allowing those who can’t attend in person to join in the celebrations from home. We will also be covering the event at the park during the day so keep an eye on the Salford Media Facebook page & Twitter on Saturday morning to watch the live coverage.

Families can enjoy a packed programme of entertainment throughout the day, including children’s rides, face painting, a climbing wall, live stage entertainment, magic shows, children’s performers and refreshments provided by the WI. No booking is required, with everyone welcome to attend.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to access free, confidential health and employment support from the WorkWell team, who will be based at the event alongside the Salford Health Improvement van.

The service is available to Salford residents aged 16 and over who are unemployed for less than two years, currently off sick, or worried about leaving work because of a physical or mental health condition or disability.

Work and Health Coaches will be available throughout the day to offer one-to-one advice on returning to work, staying in employment, managing health conditions in the workplace, requesting reasonable adjustments and accessing wider wellbeing and employment support.

The event promises to combine a meaningful tribute to the Armed Forces community with practical support and a fun-filled day out for local families.

The Armed Forces Parade starts at 10.30am, with the Family Fun Day running from approximately 11am until 4pm at Winton Park, Dover Street, Eccles. Admission is free and no advance booking is necessary.
