A Salford man has been charged with offences relating to the alleged production of a biological toxin and an attempted psychoactive substance offence.
Callum Browne, 28, of Rowland Street, Salford, has been charged with production of a biological toxin (ricin) under Section 2 of the Chemical Weapons Act 1996 and attempted production of a psychoactive substance contrary to Section 1 of the Criminal Attempts Act 1981.
He was remanded in to custody and was due to appear before Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 10 June.
The charges follow an incident on Sunday 31 May when emergency services were called to a property on Rowland Street shortly after 8.30pm following concerns for a person’s welfare.
North West Ambulance Service attended the address and Greater Manchester Police officers were subsequently called to the scene.
During their attendance, officers discovered substances believed to be potentially hazardous. Specialist teams attended and the substances were safely removed from the property.
