Promenade Performance Explores Climate Change at Irlam Garden Centre

An appreciate crowd were entertained at Princes Park Garden Centre in Irlam recently, where Steppingstones Creative in partnership with the Garden Centre users performed a Promenade – Are there still Seasons?

The promenade with five performances around the Garden Centre featured movement, text and sound in the site-specific setting.

Steppingstones Creative have partnered with the Centre; hosting an inclusive arts group every other Friday on site with the Promenade, a walking set of performances the culmination of part of that work.

Micheal from Steppingstones Creative said, “During a winter storm the group discussed climate change but found no definitive answer, so we have invited others to share their views through the promenade event.”

At each point, a reading of poetry by Alan Sturgess was read out by Leigh, Paul and Nick as performers including Nathan, Leanne, Kevin, Peter, Grahame and Rebecca used choreographed movement to accompany. With choreography led by Rebecca and Amelia.

Grace Harman, a tutor at Cadishead Brass Band provided the musical interlude as the group travelled around the Garden Centre to the next performance site.

Salford Library Service supported the event and had a pop-up library in the onsite retail shop, focusing on environmental books, assisting in answering the question ‘Are there still Seasons?’

The next project will be a movement performance as part of the local amateur dramatics group ‘Tread the Boards’ review in May, with new members always welcome. For more information go to s.s.creative@icloud.com
