Salford residents facing sudden financial hardship can now access emergency support after Salford City Council launched a new Crisis Payment Scheme.

The scheme, which opened on April 1, 2026, is part of the wider Crisis and Resilience Fund and is backed by funding from the UK Government. It’s designed to provide fast, short-term help for people hit by unexpected money problems or urgent situations.

Council bosses say the fund will act as a safety net for those with nowhere else to turn – helping to prevent hardship, protect vulnerable residents and ensure people can access essentials when they need them most.

Support is available for a wide range of situations, including sudden loss of income, financial shocks, domestic emergencies, and people facing homelessness or at risk of losing their home.

Those eligible could receive help with everyday essentials like food, fuel, clothing and basic household items. Short-term financial assistance is also available to stop problems from escalating, alongside advice and referrals to other services aimed at helping people get back on their feet.

Residents can apply online or contact the Salford Assist Team by calling 0800 011 3998 between 10am–12pm and 2pm–4pm, Monday to Friday. People who need help with their application can also visit one of the city’s Gateway Centres or the Broughton Hub.

The council is urging anyone struggling or facing an emergency to come forward and access the support now available.
