Man charged over Eccles bus bridge crash that left passengers seriously injured

A 57-year-old man has been charged with three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the Eccles bus bridge crash which happened on Barton Road in July last year. The collision, involving a bus striking a railway bridge, left several passengers injured and sparked major emergency service response at the scene.

A man has now been charged in connection with the Eccles bus bridge crash which left several people seriously injured.

Christopher Henry, of Thornhill Road, Tameside, has been charged with three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the collision on Barton Road, Eccles, on Monday 21 July 2025.

The incident involved a bus striking a bridge and prompted a large emergency service response, with road closures put in place while emergency crews treated injured passengers and investigated the scene.

Henry, born 13 June 1968, has been bailed to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 15 September 2026.

The charges come following a lengthy police investigation into the crash, which shocked the local community and renewed concerns surrounding bridge strikes involving buses and heavy vehicles in Greater Manchester.
