All three westbound lanes of the M62 have reopened between the Birchwood (J11) and Eccles (J12) interchange with the M602 & M60, following an incident in which car burst into flames after it crashed into the grass verge shortly before 10:35pm, yesterday evening (26th March).
All traffic was temporarily held by Greater Manchester Police and National Highways Traffic Officers as Fire Crews tackled the blaze.
There were unconfirmed reports that the vehicle had been involved in a police chase involving the forces helicopter and multiple police vehicles, before loosing control and crashing into the grass verge.
Diversions were temporarily put in place around the area with heavy traffic reported on numerous roads around Eccles as a result of the motorway disruption.
It has not yet been disclosed as to if anyone has been injured as a result of the incident.
All lanes have now reopened and the motorway is passable in both directions once again
