Update: The M60 has now reopened in both directions.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the M60 near Barton Bridge this morning (Tuesday 31 March) after emergency services were called to a concern for welfare on the motorway.
Emergency Services were first alerted to the situation at around 9:40am, prompting an immediate response to the scene. As a result, the M60 has been closed in both directions while police and other emergency services deal with the incident.

Motorists are facing significant delays in the surrounding area, with congestion quickly building on nearby routes. Police are advising drivers to seek alternative routes where possible and allow extra time for their journeys.
There is currently no confirmation on how long the closure will remain in place.
Updates are expected as the situation develops.
