Full Candidates List for Local Elections 2026

Salford residents will go to the polls on May 7 to vote in the local elections.

One councillor in each of the borough’s 20 wards will be elected to represent Salfordians in the council chamber.

The exception is in Cadishead and Lower Irlam where residents will vote in two councillors.

The council is dominated by Labour, with the party boasting 50 of 60 seats.

There are pockets of opposition in Boothstown and Ellensbrook, Worsley and Westwood Park, and Kersal and Broughton, which are currently majority Conservative; and in Quays, where the Liberal Democrats have the upper hand.

This year, the Conservatives, the Green Party, Labour, and Reform UK are all standing candidates in every single area. There are also 16 people competing for the Liberal Democrats, and individual candidates for other parties including the socialist Trade Unionist group, far-right party Advance UK, and Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana’s Your Party.

A total of 109 local candidates have been announced.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote in this year’s local elections is 5pm on Tuesday, April 21. Residents have until midnight on Monday, April 20 to make sure they are on the electoral register and therefore entitled to vote.

Voters are reminded they will need to take ID to polling stations in order to vote.
