ForHousing has become the first housing association in the North West to successfully secure funding through Homes England’s Social and Affordable Homes Programme (SAHP) 26–36, supporting the construction of 185 new homes in Salford.

Following the approval of its grant bid, the social housing landlord will begin work on its first funded scheme at Green Lane, Cadishead. The development will deliver a mix of homes for social rent and shared ownership, helping to meet local housing need in Salford.

The initial allocation of funding will support five upcoming ForHousing developments, delivering 185 new homes in total – 173 for social rent and 12 for shared ownership. All homes will be built to high quality standards, supporting ForHousing’s commitment to providing safe, well-maintained affordable housing.

The funding marks an important milestone in the delivery of the ForHousing Homes Strategy, which focuses on increasing the supply of affordable homes, supporting local communities and contributing to long-term regeneration across Salford and the wider Greater Manchester area.

Clare Tostevin, Executive Director of Investment and Growth at ForHousing, said:

“We’re delighted to have secured support from Homes England, which recognises the positive work we’re doing to invest in safe, high-quality and truly affordable homes for local people.

“These first five schemes represent a significant step forward in delivering our Homes Strategy and addressing housing need across Salford. We’re looking forward to getting started and seeing these developments make a real difference to our communities.”

Shahi Islam, Director of Affordable Housing Grants at Homes England, said:

“We’re pleased to support ForHousing through the Affordable Homes Programme to help deliver high-quality, affordable homes in Salford.

“Partnerships like this are central to our mission to increase the supply of affordable housing where it’s most needed, supporting local priorities and creating sustainable communities for the future.”
