Residents are being invited to take part in a unique event celebrating Salford’s rich heritage when a number of historic headstones are uncovered at Weaste Cemetery later this month.
The Public Headstone Uncovering Session will take place at Weaste Cemetery on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th June 2026, offering members of the community an opportunity to witness the revealing of restored memorials and learn more about the stories of those buried there.
The event forms part of ongoing efforts to preserve and promote the history of one of Salford’s most significant cemeteries. Visitors will have the chance to see the results of conservation work and discover more about the people and families who helped shape the city’s past.
Weaste Cemetery has long been an important part of Salford’s heritage, serving as the final resting place for generations of local residents. Events such as this help ensure that the history contained within the cemetery remains accessible to future generations.
Organisers are encouraging anyone with an interest in local history, genealogy or heritage conservation to attend and learn more about the cemetery’s historic significance.
The sessions will take place at Weaste Cemetery, Salford, on Tuesday, 9 June and Thursday 11th June.
The event is open to members of the public, with places available to book online. Further details and tickets can be obtained via Eventbrite: Book your place here.
