A special afternoon in the Mayor’s Parlour at Salford Civic Centre saw local community stalwart David Hill receive a Citizens Award in recognition of his outstanding charity and community work.
The award was presented by the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Robin Garrido in the presence of his good wife and Mayoral consort Karen, celebrating David’s continued commitment to supporting residents across Eccles and Salford.
David, owner of the popular café The Leaf Bean Pod, has raised more than £1,200 through sales of his limited-edition “Salford 100” reflection pies. The money is now being distributed to a range of deserving local causes, helping organisations and community groups across the city.
Without the hard work and commitment we would be unable to pull off our VIP Pensioner Parties.
The café itself has become much more than a place to grab a coffee or bite to eat. It has built a strong reputation as a welcoming community hub, bringing people together and offering support to many local residents.

Also recognised during the ceremony was Greta Georgieva-Kovacheva, who received a Salford Media Community Champions award for her dedication and service. Having been part of the café team for around five years, Greta is regarded as an invaluable member of the business and a familiar friendly face to customers, not only that, Greta somehow manages to manage all of the food service at our Pensioner Parties.
The awards highlighted the positive impact both David and Greta have made within the local community, with their efforts helping to strengthen community spirit and support those in need.
For David and Greta, it was a well-deserved moment of recognition for years of hard work, kindness and commitment to the people of Salford.
We could not be prouder of both.
