A much-loved local theatre production is set to return to the stage in Weaste this spring, as Tutankhamun – A Multi Award-Winning Musical comes back by popular demand.
The show, performed by St Luke’s Arts & Drama Society (SLADS), will run from Monday 25 May to Saturday 30 May at St Luke’s Parish Hall, with nightly performances beginning at 7:30pm.
With words and music by Paul Whittle, the production previously played to outstanding acclaim at The Lowry, and now returns to a more intimate community setting.
Audiences can expect a “gripping and visually striking production” that brings the splendour, danger and passion of ancient Egypt to life. Set in the Valley of the Kings, the story follows a young Pharaoh as he ascends to the throne — charismatic, idealistic, and determined to rule in his own right.
But behind palace walls, tensions rise.
“Ambition festers. Alliances shift. Secrets whisper through the corridors of the court.”
At the heart of the story is a powerful love story between Tutankhamun and Ankhesenpaaten, described as “tender, defiant, and set against a backdrop of political tension.” As rivalries intensify and an assassination plot takes shape, the production asks a central question:
“Who can be trusted when the crown is at stake?”
The musical features soaring numbers, dramatic ensemble scenes, choreography, ceremonial moments, and a mix of humour and heartbreak — creating what organisers describe as a theatrical experience filled with both spectacle and emotion.
“This is not simply a historical retelling — it is a story of ambition, loyalty, destiny, and the cost of power.”
Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £7 for children and concessions, with advance booking strongly recommended following previous sell-out runs.

The production is recommended for audiences aged 12 and over due to strong language.
Organisers are encouraging residents to support local theatre and “join us for an unforgettable evening of music, drama, intrigue and royal spectacle as this celebrated production returns once more to captivate audiences.”
Performances run nightly from May 25 to May 30 at 7:30pm at St Luke’s Parish Hall on Derby Road (The Church On The Hill).
