A special event is set to take place in Salford this summer as part of the city’s centenary celebrations.

The Royal Naval Association City of Salford Branch will be hosting a Drumhead Service on 14 June 2026 at MediaCityUK, right in the heart of the historic Salford Docks. The waterfront, once one of the busiest ports in the country, played a huge role in shaping the city’s industrial and maritime past.

The service will bring together veterans, serving personnel and the wider community, and is expected to be a key moment in the “Salford 100” celebrations marking 100 years since the city was granted status.

There’ll also be live music on the day from the Greater Manchester Police Band, whose history dates back to 1877, adding a real sense of occasion to what’s set to be a moving and memorable service.

Organisers have also thanked Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes for his support in helping make the event happen.

The Drumhead Service forms part of a wider National Conference Weekend, backed by a number of local organisations including Salford City Council, Greater Manchester Police, Royal Marines Reserve Manchester, The Lowry, Salford Distillery, Transport for Greater Manchester, Bee Network and Imperial War Museum North.

Organisers say the level of support has been “outstanding”, helping to create an event that not only honours Salford’s past but also brings people together to mark the city’s centenary.

Anyone heading down can expect a meaningful and well-supported event, set against one of Salford’s most recognisable waterfront backdrops.
