Residents Invited to Shape £20m Future for Brookhouse and Peel Green

Residents in Brookhouse and Peel Green are being invited to take a leading role in shaping the future of their community, as a major long-term investment programme gets underway.

The local community asked for investment to be made and this is exactly what this is.

Michael Wheeler MP for Worsley & Eccles, is encouraging local people to apply for positions on a new Neighbourhood Board that will oversee the delivery of the Pride in Place programme — a £20 million initiative set to invest in the area over the next decade.

The scheme is designed to improve everyday life across Brookhouse and Peel Green, with potential projects including upgrades to parks and public spaces, support for community centres and grassroots organisations, improvements to street safety, and funding for local initiatives that bring residents together.

Unlike traditional funding models, the programme will be shaped by local priorities rather than national decision-making. Residents and community groups will have a direct say in how the money is spent, ensuring it reflects the needs and ambitions of the neighbourhood.

A central part of this approach is the creation of a Neighbourhood Board, which will work in partnership with Salford City Council, the local MP, community organisations and residents.

Applications are now open for two key roles: an Independent Community Chair and Neighbourhood Board members.

The Independent Community Chair will help bring together residents and stakeholders, guide discussions on priorities, and lead the development of a long-term regeneration and investment plan for the area.

Board members will work collaboratively to represent the community, shape local priorities, and ensure residents’ voices directly influence how funding is allocated.

Michael Wheeler MP said:

“This programme is about putting local people at the centre of decisions about how this money is spent for Brookhouse & Peel Green. It is long-term investment shaped by the people who live and work here, focusing on what will genuinely make a difference to the area.

“You do not need formal experience to get involved. What matters is care for our community, a willingness to listen, and a commitment to work with others to help make Brookhouse & Peel Green an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

“I know many people across Worsley & Eccles already give their time and energy to our communities in all sorts of ways, often without thinking of it as ‘getting involved’. This programme is about recognising that and building on it, making sure those voices are part of shaping decisions.

“I would strongly encourage anyone who is interested, even if you are unsure, to take a closer look. The strength of this programme will come from having a wide range of voices and experiences involved.”
