A call has gone out for volunteers to help bring one of Salford’s biggest summer events back to life this June.
“We Invented The Weekend” will return to MediaCity and Salford Quays on 6 and 7 June 2026, and organisers are now looking for local people to get involved and be part of the action.
The festival celebrates Salford’s proud claim as the birthplace of the weekend, tracing back to 1843 when workers in the region successfully campaigned to finish early on Saturdays – a move that helped shape modern working life across the world.
Now firmly established as a highlight in the city’s events calendar, the festival is expected to draw crowds for a packed programme of live performances, music, family activities and interactive experiences.
Salford CVS and Volunteer Centre Salford say volunteers will be at the heart of it all. They’re encouraging anyone with a bit of time and enthusiasm to sign up, with roles ranging from welcoming visitors and helping people find their way around, to supporting behind-the-scenes activity and keeping things running smoothly.

It’s a chance not only to be part of a major event on our doorstep, but also to meet new people and gain some hands-on experience.
Anyone interested in volunteering can find out more and register their interest through the Salford CVS website.
