The grounds at Emmaus Salford are a step closer to becoming a dedicated wellbeing garden after a group of volunteers spent the day clearing and tidying the site.

A total of 14 volunteers took part in the effort, removing litter and preparing the outdoor space at the homelessness charity’s base and shop off Fitzwarren Street in Pendleton. The initiative is part of wider plans to create a welcoming garden area to support residents and visitors.

The volunteers came from a range of companies, including property developer Caddick Construction Limited, engineering firm NG Bailey, plumbing specialists C&D Mechanical, ductwork experts Ventorex, and recruitment companies We are Footprint and Caval Limited.

During their time on-site, volunteers also met people supported by Emmaus Salford, gaining insight into the realities of homelessness. They heard first-hand about essential but often overlooked items needed by those experiencing homelessness, including access to a mobile phone and personal identification.

Jackie Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Emmaus Salford, said the work carried out would have a lasting impact. She said: “We would like to thank the individuals for producing such great results in our garden and outside our site. Clearing the grounds after the winter will help our residents and the visitors to our new Live Well Space get planting as we go into the warmer months.”

The volunteering day is the latest in a series of contributions from the companies involved. Over the Christmas period, donations helped stock the shelves of Lucie’s Pantry at Emmaus Salford and provided vouchers for members and their families as part of the charity’s Christmas Kindness Appeal.

Dave Saville, Regional Managing Director for Caddick Construction North West, described the experience as rewarding. He said: “Spending time at Emmaus Salford was a rewarding experience for our team, and it was great to get involved and make a visible difference to a space that will support wellbeing and bring people together. Hearing directly from those involved with the charity about the realities of homelessness reinforces why partnerships like this matter. We’re proud to support Emmaus Salford and look forward to continuing our relationship in the future.”

Emmaus Salford also extended thanks to the individual volunteers who took part in the day, recognising their efforts in helping move the project forward.
