A brand-new British musical based on one of the country’s most unlikely success stories is set to arrive in Salford next month, as Bank of Dave The Musical makes its world premiere at The Lowry.
Producers ROYO, Future Artists Entertainment, Curve and The Lowry have released first-look rehearsal images ahead of the show’s debut, which runs in Salford from May 2 to May 16 before transferring to Leicester’s Curve from May 20 to May 30.
At the heart of the production is the story of Dave Fishwick, the Burnley businessman who took on the UK’s banking system to set up a community-focused bank. His journey—from minibus salesman to financial disruptor—captured national attention through a bestselling book, a BAFTA-winning documentary and a hit Netflix film.
Taking on the lead role is Sam Lupton, known for playing Del Boy in the Only Fools and Horses UK tour and Boq in Wicked. He is joined by Hayley Tamaddon as Nicky and Lucca Chadwick-Patel as Hugh, alongside a large ensemble cast bringing the story to life.

The musical features a book and lyrics by Rob Madge, with music and lyrics by Pippa Cleary. Direction comes from Curve’s Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, with choreography by Ebony Molina.
Described as a “home-grown, feel-good British musical,” the show blends humour and heart as it follows Fishwick’s battle against traditional banking giants. With the help of an idealistic lawyer, he heads to London to challenge the financial establishment and fight for fairer access to lending—particularly for small businesses often turned away by mainstream banks.
Speaking about the production, Fishwick himself has likened it to “the humour of The Full Monty with the spirit of Billy Elliot—but with a few more ba*tard bankers.”
The stage adaptation promises plenty of laughs, a strong northern voice, and what Fishwick boldly calls “the best songs in any musical ever.”
