A brand-new podcast shining a spotlight on the people of Salford is set to launch this month as the city marks 100 years since gaining city status.
‘Salford Voices’, created by Art with Heart, will be released on April 21 and features stories from residents, community groups and local artists across the city.
The four-part series – along with a collection of mini-episodes – has been produced by Reform Radio and captures voices from across Salford, including members of men’s mental health group Talk About It Mate, young people from CommUNITY Little Hulton and Salford’s mayor, Paul Dennett.
Recording took place in everyday settings across the city, from schools and libraries to foodbanks, bars and community centres, creating what organisers say is a lasting audio snapshot of Salford life in 2026.
As part of the project, a group of local writers and artists worked alongside residents over five weeks to create original poems exploring what Salford means to them. Contributors include Louis Glazzard, Jae Bradley, Izzy Coward, Ben Mellor, Jody Findley and Matt Concannon.
Mike Richard, founder of Talk About It Mate, said the project has already made a difference to those involved. He said many of the men felt “invisible” before taking part, but have since gained confidence and a stronger sense of connection.
Rachel Moorhouse, co-creative director at Art with Heart, said the podcast is a celebration of the people who define the city. She added that the series has been created “with the people of Salford for future Salfordians to enjoy.”
The podcast is part of a wider Salford Voices project, which also includes a banner exhibition at Salford Museum and Art Gallery, a centenary book for residents to share their hopes for the future, and a short film inspired by local stories.
All episodes will be available on major streaming platforms from April 21.
