Man, 24, dies after collision on M61 near Bolton as police appeal for information

A 24-year-old man has died after being struck by a vehicle on the M61 in the early hours of Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to the motorway between junctions 3 and 4, near Bolton, at around 2.25am on April 3, 2026, following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident led to disruption on routes around the area in the early hours, as emergency services responded and initial investigations were carried out.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene. No arrests have been made and officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police are now appealing for information from the public. Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who was travelling along the M61 at the time and may have dashcam footage.
