Salford’s student television societies are celebrating a major success after picking up seven awards at this year’s National Student Television Awards (NaSTAs).
Members of Quays TV and Shock TV travelled to Loughborough on Sunday, March 29, after being shortlisted in a range of categories, joining some of the best student broadcasters from across the UK.
Quays TV led the way with four awards, including two golds and two silvers.
BA Journalism (Broadcast) student and Head of Social Media, Gracie Jones, won gold for On-Screen Talent. She also secured a second gold in the Light Entertainment category for Soap Dish, alongside co-presenter Jess Buckley, a BA Television and Radio Production student.
Freya Johnson, Deputy Station Manager and BA Journalism student, praised the team’s efforts.
“A lot of hard work goes into all of our productions, and we cannot thank everyone enough,” she said.
“Gracie Jones is such an inspiration, and I am beyond ecstatic for her winning Best On-Screen Talent.
“Quays is all about pitching new ideas and seeing them flourish. No matter your experience, you can give it a go and learn new skills.”
Shock TV also celebrated its most successful NaSTAs to date.
The society claimed bronze for Broadcaster of the Year for the first time, while BA Film Production student Ben Formosa received bronze for Production Talent.
They also secured gold in Technical Innovation following a major summer project to rebuild their studio.
Isabel Corbridge, Head of Shock and BA Film Production student, highlighted the work behind the scenes.
“Myself, Alfie Mulcahy, Aaron Walkden, and Alex Foreman spent most of the summer and September completely rewiring a new multimedia studio for the station this year,” she said.
“We all had an amazing time away and loved every moment of the award ceremony.”
This year’s success builds on a strong track record for Salford’s student broadcasters. Quays TV took home four awards at the 2025 ceremony in Southampton, while both societies shared three awards at the 2024 event held in Manchester.
