ForHousing completes 18-home affordable scheme in Swinton

A new development of affordable housing has been completed in Swinton, with social landlord ForHousing unveiling 18 social rent homes at the White Lion site.

The scheme brings a mix of 13 one-bedroom and five two-bedroom apartments, all offered at social rent, alongside dedicated private parking for residents.

Backed by £1.3 million from Homes England and a further £270,000 from the Brownfield Housing Fund, construction began in 2024. The completed project is now set to provide a significant boost to the availability of genuinely affordable homes in the area.

The development was delivered through a partnership with Whitfield and Brown and architects Bernard Taylor Partnerships LTD, transforming the site into a modern residential space over the past year.

Clare Tostevin, Executive Director of Investment and Growth at ForHousing, said:

“It’s wonderful to see the White Lion scheme reach completion. The positive impact the project has already had in Swinton, including creating local job opportunities during construction, is something I know will continue as we welcome new tenants into their homes.

“As Salford marks its centenary year, it feels especially meaningful to be delivering safe, high-quality and truly affordable homes that will support the community for generations to come. I hope the new tenants will feel just as proud of their homes as we are”.
