Families in Walkden are being invited to set sail for a day of pirate-themed fun this April, as a free storytelling and picnic event comes to Parr Fold Park.
The “Pirates Love Underpants” sessions will take place on Saturday, 11 April 2026, offering a mix of interactive storytelling and outdoor activities aimed at young children and their families. Organisers say the event is designed to bring the local community together in a relaxed, playful setting.
Four one-hour sessions will run throughout the day, giving families flexibility to attend. The sessions are scheduled for 10:30am, 12pm, 1:30pm and 3pm, with attendees asked to arrive 15 minutes early to sign in outside the Pavilion building.
The event is open to both adults and children aged three and above living in Salford and Farnworth, and is completely free to attend thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund.
Organisers have said that while the sessions include a picnic element, food options will be limited. Each attendee will receive a pre-packed sandwich, along with a snack and water, but they are unable to cater for specific dietary requirements.
Those wishing to attend must book in advance by contacting the organisers via WhatsApp or text on 07775 066130. Support with travel costs may be available, and car sharing is being encouraged.
With a light-hearted theme inspired by the popular children’s book, the event promises plenty of laughs, imagination, and a chance for local families to enjoy the park together as the warmer weather begins.
