Three Fire Engines Called to Derelict Building Fire in Eccles

Emergency services were called to Eccles on Monday evening after a fire broke out inside a derelict building on Chadwick Road.

Crews from three stations – Stretford, Agecroft and Eccles – were dispatched shortly after 7pm, with part of the road cordoned off while firefighters brought the situation under control.

The incident, at the junction with Mather Avenue, caused concern among nearby residents. Several reported hearing sirens and seeing emergency vehicles arrive, while others described a strong, foul acrid smell in the air, likened to burning plastic, as the fire took hold.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said firefighters used a hose reel, two breathing apparatus and specialist equipment to extinguish the blaze. Crews remained at the scene for around one hour and 10 minutes, making the area safe before departing.

No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
