Canal boat destroyed in fire in Boothstown as crews rush to scene

Emergency services were called out to a canal-side incident in Boothstown on Saturday (March 28) after a canal boat was engulfed in flames.

Fire crews attended the blaze along a stretch of the Bridgewater Canal, where the vessel had caught fire. Thick smoke could be seen rising across the area, with flames tearing through the boat.

Witnesses said the fire appeared to spread quickly, with footage shared online showing the narrowboat already well alight as crews arrived.

Firefighters worked to bring the situation under control, while police put a cordon in place to keep people away from the scene.

There have been no confirmed reports of any serious injuries at this stage, though it remains unclear whether anyone was on board when the fire broke out.

An investigation is now underway to establish the cause of the blaze.

Residents around Vicars Hall Lane were advised to avoid the canal towpath while emergency services dealt with the incident.
