Three Men Held Over Section 18 Assault After Violent Incident in Irlam

Three men have been arrested following a serious assault outside a pub on Liverpool Road in Irlam in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police were called to the scene at around 2:40am (Sunday 29 March) after reports of an altercation involving several men outside the premises.

During the incident, a man sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

Officers have since confirmed that three men, all in their 20s, have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. They remain in custody for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Helen Bagnall, from the Salford district, described the incident as “shocking”.

She said: “This is a shocking incident and our thoughts are firmly with the victim and his family during this extremely difficult time.

“We are working at pace and remain absolutely committed to identifying everyone involved and bringing those responsible to justice.

“Three arrests have been made in connection with this incident, and we are continuing to appeal for further information.

“Officers remain committed to understand the full circumstances and are urging anyone with information to come forward to support our investigation.”

A dedicated portal has been set up for members of the public to submit information, including CCTV, dashcam, doorbell or mobile phone footage.
