Passengers using the Eccles Metrolink line are being urged to plan ahead as tram services are set to be suspended over the Easter weekend as part of major upgrade works.
No trams will run on the Eccles line from Friday, April 3 to Monday, April 6, with disruption expected across the route while essential improvements are carried out on Greater Manchester’s tram network.
The closure forms part of a wider £150 million investment programme aimed at making the network more reliable, resilient and safer in the long term. While the most significant track replacement will take place on the Altrincham line, Eccles services are among those fully affected by the four-day shutdown.
During this period, replacement bus services will operate between all affected stops, including along the Eccles route, to help keep passengers moving. However, travellers are reminded that tickets cannot be purchased on board replacement buses, and a valid Metrolink ticket must be obtained in advance or via contactless touch-in and touch-out.
In addition, Bee Network bus services will run close to tram stops, offering alternative travel options for those commuting to and from Eccles and surrounding areas such as MediaCityUK.
The disruption is part of a wider programme of works that will continue throughout the spring and summer, with further repairs planned across the network—including locations on or near the Eccles line later in the year.
Transport officials say the improvements are vital to maintaining and modernising the network, but are advising passengers to check ahead and allow extra time for their journeys during the closure period.
