Families encouraged to explore full care options available following CQC report

A local home care boss is calling for greater awareness of care options available in Salford after the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated Salford City Council’s adult social care services as inadequate. She is reassuring families that there are quality alternatives for their older loved ones.

Susan Robinson is owner of Home Instead Salford & Worsley, which is the city’s only home care company rated as ‘outstanding’ by the CQC. As a beacon of knowledge in the community for all things care, Susan is always keen to show families that they don’t always have to accept care packages offered by the local authority.

Commenting on the news of Salford City Council’s care, Susan says: “My message to local families is simple. First of all, don’t panic! And secondly, don’t feel like you have to select the first care package that becomes available as there are various options in the area.”

Many people are offered Direct Payments following a care needs assessment by social services, which give them the ability to select and buy their own care. Thanks to having greater control, families can rest assured that their loved ones are receiving care that is tailored to their needs, delivered by familiar faces, and designed to help them live safely and happily at home.

To support people with understanding their care options, Home Instead Salford & Worsley hosts ‘The Care Compass Circle’, where people can ask the team any questions they have and hear about other local organisations who can help with their needs. Taking place at Swinton Gateway between 6pm and 8pm on the first Tuesday of every month, the session on 2nd June will include a talk from Liverpool University students on the importance of Lasting Power of Attorney, and a qualified solicitor will be on hand to answer questions.

Susan continues: “Everyone deserves access to quality care, and I applaud the council for reassuring local families that they will find a solution following this CQC report. On a regular basis, I speak to people looking assessing care options for their older relatives, and I see how challenging it is for them to navigate the care system, which they don’t know a great deal about.”
