Police have confirmed that a man has been charged with six offences following an alleged dangerous driving incident in Salford earlier this week.

David Smith, 49, of Curzon Street in Mossley, has been charged with five counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and one count of dangerous driving after an incident on Leicester Road on Tuesday 19 May.

Greater Manchester Police said the charges relate to a report of suspected dangerous driving made to officers in Salford. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Smith has been remanded into custody and was due to appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 21 May).

The incident gained widespread attention after footage circulated online appearing to show a vehicle driving through a pedestrian crossing area on Leicester Road in the Broughton Park area of Salford.

GMP previously confirmed officers had launched an investigation after the incident was reported at around 5pm on Tuesday evening.
