The University of Salford is celebrating after its Apprenticeships team took home a prestigious honour at this year’s Educate North Awards (ENAs).

The awards, now in their eleventh year, recognise excellence, innovation and best practice across the education sector in the North of England, celebrating the achievements of universities, colleges, sixth forms and industry partnerships making a positive impact on students and communities.

The university was nominated for eight awards in total and secured victory in the highly competitive Apprenticeships category during the ceremony held at Emirates Old Trafford.

Over the past decade, the university has become one of the leading providers of apprenticeships in the North West, growing from just 16 apprentices in 2016 to more than 4,000 in 2026 across 22 industry-aligned programmes.

Working with more than 400 employers and key partners, the university says its apprenticeship programmes are helping to tackle regional skills shortages while providing practical, work-based learning opportunities for students across Greater Manchester and beyond.

The university has also invested heavily in facilities, inclusive programme design and employer collaboration to ensure apprentices are equipped with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in industry.

Adele Lochman and Arron Ward from the Apprenticeships team collected the award on the night, with the ceremony made even more special as the award was presented by the university’s Chancellor, Lucy Meacock, who was hosting the event.

Speaking after the win, Adele Lochman, Assistant Head of Apprenticeships, said the award marked an important milestone as 2026 celebrates ten years of apprenticeship delivery at the university.

She said: “Our apprenticeship programmes break down barriers, transform lives, and drive forward the skills agenda for Greater Manchester and beyond. This award reflects the strength of our team in Salford, whose hard work and commitment continue to drive our success.”
