65-year-old charged after alleged racially aggravated assault and threats made in Salford street

A Salford man has been charged with a string of racially aggravated offences following an incident in the city earlier this week.

Wayne Kelly, of Northumberland Street, Salford, appeared before the courts after being charged in connection with an incident reported on Thursday, May 6, 2026.

The 65-year-old faces multiple charges, including racially aggravated public order offences and assault.

The charges include:

  • Racially aggravated section 4 public order offence
  • Racially aggravated section 4a public order offence
  • Racially aggravated common assault
  • Two counts of racially aggravated section 5 public order offences

Kelly has been remanded into custody and was due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning, May 8.

The charges relate to an incident on Northumberland Street in Salford on Thursday, May 6.

Greater Manchester Police previously confirmed officers were called to reports of threats being made in the area at around 10.37pm. A man in his 60s was arrested at the scene.

Police enquiries remain ongoing.
